how did the Aztecs measure time?
The Aztecs had a very specific type of calendar that they measured time after. Their calendar had many connections between their Gods and humans and sacred and spiritual things. The Aztecs had two calendars: a sacred calendar and a solar calendar. The sacred calendar was 260 days long; which currently a whole year for us in modern times is 365 days. it took the sacred calendar 52 days to catch up with the solar calendar.
The Great Stone calendar was carved in the mid-1400s and was dedicated to their God Huitzilopochtli. The calendar showed how the world began and how it will end. The Aztecs believed there was four eras before the era they were currently living in (which was the fifth era) and each era had been destroyed.
